Compare the colors used in the van Gogh painting below to the curtains in the Maria Sethe painting below by Theo van Rysselberghe. Van Gogh could have borrowed paint from Theo. They were traveling together during this time period. While traveling with Theo van Rysselberghe, van Gogh would most likely have been able to paint this Sultan.

According to the notes written during these visits the name of the painting is "Portrait of Morrocan (sic)".  A photo of that note is below. The top part of the note is written by Mr. Koch and the remaining by Mary. These are the transaction notes.
