I was always hoping that, given the overwhelming evidence, the paintings would be returned through a deathbed confession or a clause in their will. But we now understand why that's impossible: The Board of Trustees' complicity and the terms of Isabella's will prevent a clean return. If the art were returned, the Board's decades of cover-up would be exposed, triggering the forfeiture of the entire Trust and its $1+ billion in assets to Harvard. The Koch family's secret payoff has put the Museum in a legal chokehold. The True Cost of Silence and The Countdown BeginsWhen my mother had her first-hand encounters with Frederick R. Koch in 1991/1992, she was in her 50s. Today, my mother is still alive, in her 80s, and she is still waiting for her story to be heard. We are NOT waiting 4 to 6 MORE weeks. The current Board is legally obligated to prioritize an outdated 1924 vision, while Harvard is obligated to prioritize preservation and education. Superior Conservation: Harvard Art Museums (HAM) operates the world-renowned Straus Center for Conservation. The ISGM collection would receive the highest standard of conservation, climate control, and expert care, safeguarding the masterpieces from the aging structure's challenges. Scholarly Freedom: Harvard's acquisition would extinguish the restrictive will, allowing curators to finally fill the empty frames with complementary works, rotate displays, and make the collection available to students and researchers, fulfilling its highest educational potential. Financial Stability: The collection gains the long-term, superior financial stability of one of the world's largest university endowments, ensuring its perpetual operation without reliance on secret, compromised payoffs.
